Ringtail Cat
 

Bassariscus astutus

* About 2 ½ feet long, half of which is its bushy tail.

* Prefers open rocky hillsides, canyon walls, and talus slopes.

* Nests in rock cavities (and sometimes in miner’s cabins where they served as excellent mousers).

* Feeds on grasshoppers, mice, rats, squirrels, small birds, small fruits and berries.

* Very seldom seen due to nocturnal habits.
