California Quail
  Callipepla californica

* Resident of Pacific states and northern Utah.

* Prefers brushy areas, sagebrush, grassy areas with scattered oaks.

* Tolerant of people and is common in suburban areas and parks.

* Feeds on seeds, leaves, flowers, and insects.

* Male has black face and reddish-brown cap. Top-knot is actually a cluster of about 6 feathers.

* Not to be confused with Gambel's Quail which lives in Southern Utah.
