Cooper's Hawk
  Accipiter cooperii

* Medium sized hawk with short, rounded wings, built for fast and maneuverable flight through the obstacle course of brush and tree limbs.

* Crashing through the trees is an occupational hazard for Cooper’s hawks. In one study, 23% of the birds examined had healed fractures of the chest.

* Is an ambush predator of small birds (e.g., starlings and quail) and rodents (e.g., squirrels).

* Up close the red eyes in adult birds are very noticeable.
