Spotted Towhee
  Pipilo maculatus

* Inhabits dense shrubby undergrowth.

* Song and call notes are one of the most commonly heard noises in the oak scrub habitat on the Wasatch Front.

* Digs in litter with a characteristic double hop (it hops forward with both feet and then scratches backward).

* During the breeding season it feeds mostly on insects, spiders, and millipedes. At other times of the year it feeds mostly on seeds, acorns, and fruits.
