White-crowned Sparrow
  Zonotrichia leucophrys

* Breeds at high elevations in alpine meadows and boreal forests, but migrates in valleys and is common at all seasons.

* One of the best studied song birds in North America. Since young do not stray far from their natal areas, many song dialects form throughout the west.

* Feeds on seeds, spiders, and buds.
