Water Vole
 

Arvicola richardsoni

* Found throughout most of northwestern U.S.

* Prefers creek banks and marshes. Swims well.

* Burrows along stream bank.

* Nests beneath stumps, old logs, roots; has a litter of 4-6.

* Large, body 5 ½ to 6 ½ inches, tail 2 ½ to 3 ½ inches. Tail shorter than body as in most voles.
