Mule Ears
  Wyethia amplexicaulis

* Aster family, bright yellow flowers, bright green waxy leaves. Compare to Arrowleaved and Cutleaf Balsamroots which do not have shiny leaves.

* Associated with Gambel Oak, Big Sagebrush, and Aspen communities.

* Provides cover for ground nesting birds.

* Deer, Elk, and livestock relish the flower heads.

* Root system stabilizes soil, reducing erosion.

* May become dominant in clay soils and overgrazed areas.
