* Found in almost all human-altered and natural habitats except vast expanses of grassland and sparsely vegetated deserts.

* Originally it was a western bird but in 1940 a few birds were released on Long Island. They have completely spread across the eastern United States since then.

* Red color comes from food eaten during molt. It may range from yellow, to orange, to deep red.

* Generally feed in flocks. Breeds in close association with humans.
