* Cool-season bunchgrass introduced from Europe in early 1900s.

* Goes dormant during summer, resprouts from bulbs at base of plant.

* Unusual grass because it can reproduce from purple bulbils at top of plant, which are separate plants, not seeds.

* Bulbils are high in starch and some fats and are eaten by wildlife.

* Leaves have boat-shaped tips.
